Selective Service

The Selective Service System is a government agency whose job it is to provide untrained manpower for the Armed Forces if there's a national emergency. All 18-year old men must register. If you do not register, you are breaking the law. If you do not register, you will not qualify for loans and grants, job training and Federal employment. To register, go online at www.sss.gov 

State THEA Test (TASP)

This test has to be taken before entering Texas public colleges or universities. You can register on-line at www.thea.nesinc.com or pick up a registration booklet in the counseling center. There are certain test dates, a fee of $29 and also a quick THEA. For more information, please call Mrs. Stewart at (936) 931-4032 or go on-line or refer to the registration booklet.

SAT/ACT

Parents/Students: there is a fee waiver form, in the Counseling Center, to assist you for whom payment of fees might be a barrier in taking these test. This waiver will cover the cost of regular registration!

Out of State Common Application

Students: if you are interested in an out of state college/university, please stop by Mrs. Stewart's office, located in the Counseling Center, to see what schools are listed.

 

 

TOPCAT (The Texas Online Preparation for College Admissions Tests Program)

Students across Texas now have free online access to materials that will help them prepare for the SAT and ACT college admission tests.

New York University - Study Abroad

Study Abroad presents students with wonderful opportunities to get to know other cultures firsthand-not only through their studies but also by immersing themselves in local communities and customs. As high school students begin researching colleges, they will be presented with numerous opportunities to go abroad during their college career and gain the once in a lifetime experience of living and learning in the places they have dreamed of seeing.

 

University of Houston

On November 10, 2007 and March 8, 2008 UH will hold an Open House. For more information go to www.uh.edu/cougarpreview. Also they hold Cougar Fridays for smaller more intimate events limited to 100 high school juniors and seniors. Visit www.uh.edu/cougarfridays. Campus tours are held Mon. -  Fri. 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and on Sat. 11 a.m.

The Texas A&M University Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers

All 10th, 11th, 12th students, parents teachers and counselors are invited to the Annual High School Conference. It will be held February 22 and 23, 2008 at Texas A&M College Station campus. It is open to male and female high school students but aimed at those who are interested in math, science, or engineering related fields. See Mrs. Stewart for more information. The registration deadline is January 14, 2008

 Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation

The Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation is a zero-interest educational loan program available through the Frost National Bank in Galveston, Texas. You must be a Texas Resident, US citizen, graduate of a Texas high school, and enrolled full-time at a Texas college/university. (409) 770-5665

 

Hardin-Simmons University

Review Days are a great opportunity for high school juniors, and seniors and their families to experience all that Hardin-Simmons University has to offer. A visit to the campus is the best way: November 3, 2007 Fall Preview and April 25-26, 2008 for the Spring Round-Up

 

Baylor University

If you missed the Fall Premiere, you still have the opportunity to attend the Winter Premiere on February 2, 2008 and Spring Premiere on April 25 - 26, 2008. You can also visit Baylor on Sic "Em Days which are held on October 8 and November 19, 2007; February 18 and March 19, 2008.
