Waller High School’s
JV Bulldog baseball team had a tough time with a well coached Magnolia West
team March 17. After the Bulldogs had a great outing against Montgomery
March 14 with a 4-2 win, they came up just a little short against Magnolia’s
Mustangs. The Bulldogs lost 6-3 after the time limit hit in the bottom of
the sixth inning. Solid pitching from sophomore Parker Edmonds, who only
gave up four runs in five innings, led the defense, but Bulldog offense
could only muster three runs. Edmonds, Jesse Lain, Tyler Bain, Kody
Merchant, and Chance Kammerer all had solid hits. Showing up defensively for
the Bulldogs were Zach Bellinger, Brett Lednicky, Jacob Wendt, Austin

resounding 20-5 win in five innings with the 10 run rule coming in to play.

their second district win of the year and their ninth overall. The offense
was led by Kammerer, Bain, Edmonds, Lednicky, Merchant, Bellinger, Tilton,
Lain, and Jacob Wendt. Each contributed with timely hits and walks to make
it tough for the Lions to relax. Solid defense was played by all with key
contributions from Trevor Mathis, Karter Ginn, Ryan Hall, Zach Salinas, and
Tilton.
March 24, the Willis Wildkats did not answer the Bulldog attack as the
‘Dogs brought home a resounding 15-5 win in five innings with the 10 run
rule coming in to play. The win improved the Bulldogs record to 10-4 overall
and 3-2 in district. Lain pitched all five innings getting the complete game
win. The Bulldog offense was lethal as the team played at their best game
all season. Great at bats teamed with timely hits helped contribute to the
15 run game. Everyone on the roster deserves a pat on the back for the win.
The offense was led by Merchant, Bain, Kammerer, Lain, Lednicky, Edmonds,
and Bellinger. Great hitting and stellar defense was displayed by Hall,
Tilton, Mathis, and Salinas. all helped the Bulldogs get the win.
March 28, the Bulldogs hammered out another run ruled 18-4 win over
Caney Creek.
Behind another solid pitching performance the Bulldogs had a close game
but couldn’t shut the door in the inning to earn the win over Huntsvillin
March 31. Edmonds pitched a complete game and gave up only six runs. The
Bulldogs committed five heartbreaking errors that helped give the win back
to the Hornets. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead with three runs in
the first thanks to offensive work by Edmonds, Bain, Lednicky, Lain, and
others, but they didn’t show up with more action until the last inning.
Huntsville tied up the score at 3 a piece in the fifth. Two innings later,
the Bulldogs bounced back and had a rally of their own scoring 2 runs in the
top of the seventh to go ahead. Huntsville answered the rally with a lead
off with a triple in the bottom of the seventh and never looked back. It was
a tough loss for the ‘Dogs. |

Junior Varsity (JV) Bulldog Baseball team won the Willis Tournament March 8
led by outstanding pitching from sophomore Zach Bellinger and junior Jesse
Lain.
Rain on March 6, when the tournament was slated to begin, had the team
had to relying on a coin flip that allowed them to move on in the winner’s
bracket. March 7, the Bulldogs got down to business on the field with an
11-3 win over Willis to take them to the championship game. During the game,

WHS took on Magnolia High School in the championship game March 8 and
the battle of the Bulldogs did not disappoint. Great pitching from both
teams made it hard to put runs on the board. Bellinger pitched the complete
game for WHS in what was likely his best pitching performance to date.
Waller scraped a run across in the third inning and two innings later put
three more on the scoreboard. Bain, Bellinger, Lednicky, Tilton, Hall,
Mathis, and Chance Kammerer all helped put up seven runs for Waller.
Defensively the team was helped by Wendt, Merchant, Lain, Ginn, and
Hightower. Magnolia rallied in the last inning, but with two outs remaining,
Wendt made a running catch in centerfield and threw to first to double the
runner off and end the game. It was a great ending for a great game. Thanks
