Waller ISD holds District
Site-Based Decision Making Committee Meeting
Waller ISD
held a District Site Based Decision Making Committee (DSBDMC) meeting
Monday, Dec. 4. Attendees were welcomed by WISD Superintendent Richard
McReavy who gave an update on the citizens’ committee meetings that began
Nov. 14. On that date, three citizens’ committees for financial planning,
capacity planning, and existing facilities planning were formed. He gave
brief summaries of the findings thus far of each committee and encouraged
all community members to attend any of the meetings. The next meeting for
all of the citizens’ committees will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in
Waller High School’s Auditorium. This meeting will be an interim reporting
session between all committees. More information can be found on WISD’s
website at www.wallerisd.net; click on the “Facilities Planning”
button at the top right of your computer screen or call 936.931.4078.
Waller ISD Director of Curriculum and Instruction Joy Kanyo gave an
update on the 2007-2008 school calendar. Kanyo asked any attendees who were
interested in planning the calendar to join a District Calendar
Subcommittee. If you would like to be a part of this committee, please
contact Joy Kanyo at 936.931.4005 or
jkanyo@wallerisd.net.
As the District moves forward with finalizing a calendar, multiple
versions will be created, and WISD faculty, staff, and citizens will be able
to vote on their favorite version at any WISD campus or on WISD’s website.
After the votes are in, results will be brought before the Board of Trustees
who will then make the final calendar decision.
Applicable to the 2007-2008 school calendar is House Bill 1, which
states that school districts may not begin before the last Monday in August.
Kanyo added information on the planning of the 2007-2008 testing
calendar, which is created by the Texas Education Agency. Testing dates for
2007-2008 have been moved back to accommodate the late start date mentioned
above. |
