SHW receives awards for
WHS New Addition
During the 2007 Texas Association of
School Boards/Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA/TASB)
conference held Sept. 28-30 in Dallas, Waller ISD’s architectural firm, SHW
Group (SHW), won awards in two categories; Value and Process of Planning;
for their work on the new addition to Waller High School (WHS) that was
completed in Spring 2007.
The criteria submitted by SHW to TASA/TASB for the Value award was:
economical pre-engineered structure with brick and stone exterior to
perfectly match work of the original architect; remodeled and expanded
library with widened existing corridor to successfully eliminate
bottlenecking between classes; use of durable concrete block, brick, metal
roof, aluminum walkways, and porcelain tile pavers to save long-term
maintenance costs; availability of after hours community access to gym and
fine arts facilities with secure separation of WHS; the cost of a new water
plant shared with the City of Waller; and an economical design that allowed
for a third gym to be added
The criteria submitted by SHW to TASA/TASB for the Process of Planning
Award was: engaging administrators and staff to develop a building program;
review of the existing school; interactive four-day on-site design process
with administration, staff, and students to explore possible solutions;
facilitation of multiple meetings with Waller ISD and the community to
develop and confirm total bond plan; and successfully working with WISD and
the contractor to phase construction on WHS’ occupied campus.
SHW was recognized by Waller ISD’s Board of Trustees for these awards
during a regular called meeting Nov. 12. |
