Waller ISD Board recognizes TEA Gold Performance Acknowledgements

During its regular meeting Nov. 13, the Waller ISD Board of Trustees recognized the 14 Texas Education Agency (TEA) Gold Performance Acknowledgements awarded to the District as a whole, Waller High School, Waller Junior High, Schultz Middle School, Roberts Road Elementary, Jones Elementary, and Fields Store Elementary.
The acknowledgements were awarded for writing, recommended high school program, reading, and mathematics. This is the highest number of TEA Gold Performance Acknowledgements the District has ever received in a single year.
The Board also recognized the WHS band for its Division I rating at UIL for the second consecutive year; the WJH eighth grade boys cross country team for earning the District Champions title; the WJH seventh grade girls volleyball team for earning the District Champions title; WHS sophomore K.J. Hamzehloo for meeting former secretary of state Colin Powell; the WHS homecoming queen and king Katy Beth Sherman and Mark Benavides; Waller ISD Teacher Mini Grant Recipients Karman Berry, Kayce Warden, Robert Smith, Sally Bender, Molly Michalek, Lauren Ratcliff, Kathy French, Kasey White, Patricia Sedillo, and Mindy Fletcher; and WHS homecoming queen Katy Beth Sherman for signing her national letter of intent to play softball for the University of Houston next year.
In other business, the Board heard updates on the WISD GT Program from Waller ISD Director of Curriculum and Instruction Joy Kanyo and information on proposed new courses at WHS for the 2007-2008 school year. The proposed courses are College Dual Credit Spanish 1411 and 1412, Show Choir, and Aquatic Science. Adding the two additional College Dual Credit courses, would mean that WHS offers 46 total hours of college credit. With these offerings students have the potential to earn “sophomore” status at a low cost before they enter a college campus and atmosphere.
Important dates noted were: Nov. 20-24 – Thanksgiving Holiday and Dec. 11 – Regular Board Meeting.
