Improvement Plans presented at Regular Board Meeting
During the regular meeting of the
Waller ISD Board of Trustees Oct. 9, each of Waller ISD’s seven campus
principals presented their campus improvement plans and Director of
Curriculum and Instruction Joy Kanyo presented the District improvement
plan. The improvement plans cited things such as instituting the use of
Cambridge Knowledge Systems to analyze student achievement through data,
closely monitoring all students for early identification of needs and
interventions, extra staff support, daily building of vocabulary and
background knowledge, elementary writing improvement programs, vertical
alignment of teachers, the addition of an elementary math coordinator, the
use of the Ellis Program for Spanish speaking students, Region 4 math
training, Dana Center math and science training, benchmark testing,
increasing instructional depth, rigor, and complexity, and the institution
of the McCabe Bridge program for college readiness at Waller High School.
The improvement plans will be posted on WISD’s website
(www.wallerisd.net) when they are complete.
In other business, WISD Assistant Superintendent for Finance Mike
Marcus presented the 2006 tax rolls and, with the assistance of accountant
Lucas Janda, the 2005-2006 audit report. Superintendent Richard McReavy
presented a very preliminary 2007-2008 school calendar. Per House Bill 1,
which became law this summer, schools may not begin the school year before
the last Monday in August. The calendar planning process will be beginning
early this year. Watch for more information in your student’s handouts, on
WISD’s website, and in this newspaper.
The Board was presented with Waller High School yearbooks by WHS
teacher Brandi Morley who acknowledged the team of girls consisting of
Lindsey Carter, Jessica Clay, Kim Eckermann, Heather Mitchell, and Alyssa
Robertson who worked on the project; and Fields Store Elementary teacher
Dawn Mayfield presented her former students who won a national poetry
competition; Christopher Wilkerson, Alyssa Herrera, and Harley Jester.
Important dates noted were: Oct. 30 – Special Called Board Meeting and
Nov. 13 – Regular Board Meeting. |
