Waller ISD held District Site-Based Decision Making Committee Meeting Sept.
27
Waller ISD held a District Site-Based Decision Making
Committee (DSBDMC) meeting Wednesday, Sept. 27 in the Administration
Building Board Room. Approximately 65 people were in attendance to discuss
Waller ISD interests.
Waller ISD Assistant Superintendent Danny Twardowski welcomed to group
and introduced Waller ISD Superintendent Richard McReavy who briefly spoke
about facility needs in the District.
The meeting was then directed by Twardowski and Waller ISD Director of
Curriculum and Instruction Joy Kanyo. All WISD campus principals presented
highlights of their proposed campus improvement plans that will be presented
in full during the Oct. 9 Regular Board Meeting. Kanyo briefly discussed the
proposed District improvement plan which will also be presented in full at
the Oct. board meeting.
Twardowski reviewed the new Student Safety Program implemented this
fall. This program will help educate students on various safety issues such
as Stranger Danger, School Bus Safety, Bicycle Safety, Good Touch Bad Touch,
Internet Safety, Bullying, and Harassment. He then reviewed the Waller ISD
2006-2007 budget highlights which can be viewed at
http://www.wallerisd.net/business/default.htm.
Kanyo reviewed the Title Funding Report and made note of her work to
improve the district-wide the Gifted and Talented (GT) Program. This
improvement plan will also be presented at the Oct. board meeting.
Before the meeting adjourned, Twardowski addressed 2007-2008 school
calendar concerns. The widely discussed House Bill 1 states that school
districts may not begin before the last Monday in August. Because of these
changes, the 2007-2008 calendar planning process will begin earlier this
year. Watch for information in student handouts, on the web at
www.wallerisd.net, and in
this newspaper.
Texas Senate Bill 1, passed in May 1995, established District
Site-Based Decision Making Committees to give support and direction to
Campus Site-Based Decision Making Committees and to serve as a central
gathering and evaluation point for information coming from those campus
committees.
The DSBDMC offers more participation opportunities for parents and
community members. It meets three to four times a year and all meetings are
open to the public. Parents and community members are encouraged to
participate. If you would like to be a part of this important district
committee, contact Danny Twardowski at 936.931.3685 or any campus principal. |
