Waller ISD Board
recognizes winning WJH Robotics Team
During the regular meeting of the
Waller ISD Board of Trustees held Aug. 13, the Board took time to recognize
Waller Junior High (WJH) students Paige Martinez, Shawnee Farmer, Vick Lal,
Paul Fritzsching, Jeron Estwick, Corbin Bates, Chris Ogg, and Jose Sanchez;
along with their sponsors Ron Werchan and Becky Elbert; for taking second
place overall in the CASE Kid’s Day at HP robotics and marketing
competition. The competition was divided in three parts: marketing,
robotics, and speed demon. The WJH team competed against approximately 14
teams from various 4A and 5A school districts in the Houston area. They took
third in marketing and second in robotics and speed demon. The Board also
recognized citizen Michael Wostarek for his generous donations to WJH.
Regular agenda items approved included the selection of underwriters
for the bond package passed May 12, 2007, certification of the 2006 tax
collection rate, and TASB Update 80.
In information items, the Board heard a construction planning update
from Mark Lam and Dwayne Trahan with SHW Group and preliminary TAKS scores
from each WISD campus principal and district Curriculum Director Joy Kanyo.
Important dates noted were: August 27 – First Day of School, August 27
– Special Called Board Meeting – Adopt Budget and Tax Rate, and September 10
– Regular Board Meeting. |
