Waller ISD announces 2009 Teachers of the Year

Waller ISD Campus Teachers of the Year were presented to the WISD Board of Trustees during the regular meeting May 14. Selected by peers at their respective campuses, the honorees were: Karen Mooney (Waller High School), Sarah Lee (Waller Junior High), Jennifer Hoffpauir (Schultz Middle School), Meredith Silvas (Holz) (Fields Store Elementary), Valerie Kubos (Holleman Elementary), Anna Dixon (Jones Elementary), and Laura Bailey (Robert Road Elementary).
     When these extraordinary teachers were selected Teacher of the Year at their respective WISD campus, those from the elementary level were then eligible to be selected the District Elementary Teacher of the Year and those from the secondary level were eligible to be selected the District Secondary Teacher of the Year.
     After a detailed application and interview process, Jennifer Hoffpauir (SMS) was selected the District Elementary Teacher of the Year and Sarah Lee (WJH) was selected the District Secondary Teacher of the year. These two ladies will go on to represent Waller ISD in the Region IV Education Service Center Teacher of the Year contest.
     A special thanks goes to the District Teacher of the Year selection committee that included Sheree Beal (2008 WISD Elementary Teacher of the Year), Becky Elbert (2008 WISD Secondary Teacher of the Year), Delores Hargrave (Waller County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2), Lois Rafferty (Community Volunteer), Mike Brooks (WISD Director of Human Resources), Jeanine Slaughter (WISD Director of Facility Planning and Construction), Joy Kanyo (WISD Director of Curriculum and Instruction), and Maryann McDaniel (Moderator/WISD Mathematics Coordinator).
     All campus teachers received a shirt, plaque, and other gifts. In addition, District Teachers of the Year received a financial award to be used for profession development and/or classroom supplies.
     Congratulations to all the campus teachers of the year and to Jennifer Hoffpauir and Sarah Lee, Waller ISD District Teachers of the Year!
