During a regular
meeting of the Waller ISD (WISD) Board of Trustees held May 12, 2008 the
Board recognized a multitude of student groups from all over the district
for their outstanding achievements. Those recognized included the Waller
Junior High (WJH) band for achieving UIL Sweepstakes, Waller High School (WHS)
bands for achieving UIL Sweepstakes, WJH choir for superior UIL performance,
WHS choirs for superior UIL performance, Schultz Middle School (SMS) choir
for superior contest performance, WJH UIL academic team for winning
competition, WJH seventh grade boys and girls track teams for winning the
district championship, WHS regional track qualifiers, and Campus and
District Teachers of the Year. The Board also took time to recognize Vinson
and Elkins, LLP; RBC Capital Markets; and First Southwest Company for
supporting WISD through the sell of $49.29 million WISD bonds approved by
voters May 12, 2007.
The Board approved the consent agenda.
The Board then heard a construction update for projects approved in the
May 12, 2007 bond election from architectural firm SHW Group.
They first discussed Elementary School #5 which will be located off of
Hegar Road north of FM 2920 on the right just past Macedonia Road near
Houston Oaks Golf Club. Construction for this project is slated to begin in
July 2008 and last 13 months; the school will open in August 2009.
Renovations and remodeling at Schultz Middle School will begin in
September 2009 and last 15 months. The project will be completed in December
2009. SMS will remain open for classes during construction as Waller High
School did during its renovation and remodel.
Waller ISD’s new athletic stadium will be located off of Stokes Road,
north of 290, adjacent to Waller High School. The site of the new stadium,
that was first said to be located on the existing WISD stadium site, was
moved due to drainage issues with new construction. This new site is owned
by the district. In years past, it has served as the district agriculture
farm. Construction on this project is scheduled to begin in August 2008 and
last 12 months; the stadium will open in August 2009.
Important dates noted were: May 26 – Memorial Day Holiday; May 29 –
Last Day of School (early release); May 31 – Graduation; and June 9 –
Regular Board Meeting. |
