Waller ISD Board recognizes 10 Retirees

During a regular meeting of the Waller ISD (WISD) Board of Trustees held June 11, the Board recognized 10 retirees: Peggy Stark, Richey Plemper, Bill Shirley, Cathy Ehley, Linda Fitzgerald, Beverly Gunderson, Calvin Trapp, Joan Robertson, Rachel Caldwell, and Richard Walther. Each retiree was presented with an engraved silver tray and Seiko wall clock.
Past Board president Robert Carvell was also recognized with a wall plaque. The Board recognized Waller Junior High’s girls’ soccer team for winning their District championship and seven of Waller High School’s Lady Bulldog track team members that competed in Regional competition.
In the regular agenda, the Board approved proposed student/parent handbook changes for 2007-2008, nominations for 2007-2008 TASB delegates (Paul Wood and alternate Robert Carvell), and the WISD bank depository contract.
In information items, Mark Lam and Dwayne Trahan with SHW Group presented a review of projects passed in the May 12, 2007 bond election. Those projects include a new district-wide stadium, a new elementary school, the renovation of Schultz Middle School to become a 6-8 grade campus, a covered walkway between the east and west campuses of Waller Junior High, a new entryway and renovations at Holleman Elementary, and improvements throughout all Waller ISD facilities.
Construction on the new stadium, which will be located on the current stadium’s site, is slated to begin October 29, 2007 and be complete by September 2008. The new elementary school, which will be located somewhere in the east part of the District (site yet to be determined), should break ground in March 2008 and open in fall 2009. Other projects discussed above will begin between March 2008 and June 2008 and be completed in 2009.
