SMS Honor Choir
“Superior” at Contest
April 7 Schultz Middle School’s
Sixth Grade Honor Choir competed in the Katy Sixth Grade Choral Festival
at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Katy. The Katy Choral Festival
is designed to provide a quality festival for younger choirs and to
introduce sixth grade students to the feel of UIL Music Contests. Choirs
are given the option of presenting two or three memorized songs to three
judges. The judges then rate the choir’s overall concert performance on
a number scale, “1” being superior and the highest possible score and
“5” being poor and the lowest score.
The Schultz Honor Choir presented “Song of the Open Road” by Ruth
Elaine Schram and “Chatter With the Angels” arranged by Anna Laura Page;
the choir was accompanied on the piano by Ms. Paula Chatman. We were
given one Division “1” rating and two Division “2” ratings; therefore,
earning an overall Excellent rating. The judges praised the choir’s
singing, and complimented their excellent behavior and focus during the
concert. The students were very excited when they received a trophy
honoring their success.
“The choir students worked very hard toward this competition and I
couldn’t be more proud,” Director Megan Arnold said.
