Waller ISD Board Approves
2008-2009 Calendar
During Waller ISD’s the regular
meeting of the Board of Trustees held March 10, the Board voted to approve
the proposed 2008-2009 school calendar. This year’s process toward creating
a school calendar for the community began with an online survey. 890
parents, faculty, staff, and students responded to the survey and the
proposed calendar was created based on the results, then presented to the
District Site-Based Decision Making Committee March 3 who unanimously voted
to present the calendar to the Board.
Highlights of the approved 2008-2009 Waller ISD school calendar
include: Aug. 25, 2008: First Day of School, Sept. 1, 2008: Labor Day
Holiday, Oct. 2-3, 2008: Waller County Fair Days, Oct. 2, 2008: Teacher Work
Day/Student Holiday, Nov. 26-28, 2008: Thanksgiving Holiday, Dec. 19, 2008:
Early Release, Dec. 22, 2008-Jan.5, 2009: Christmas Holiday, Jan. 6, 2009:
First Day of Second Semester, Jan. 19, 2009: Martin Luther King Holiday,
Feb. 16, 2009: Presidents Day Holiday, March 16-20, 2009: Spring Break,
April 10 and 13, 2009: Easter Holiday, May 25, 2009: Memorial Day Holiday,
June 3, 2009: Last Day of School/Early Release, and June 6, 2009:

The Board also approved the 2007 Summer School plan presented by WISD
Curriculum Director Joy Kanyo.
Two-time Roberts Road Elementary School Spelling Bee winner, fourth
grader Maggie Pollard, was recognized for taking second place in the
Regional Spelling Bee for grades Kindergarten-8. Waller High School’s Girls
Wrestling team was also recognized for their State Championship season, as
was their coach, Jason Thurston, for being named Coach of the Year twice in
the past season.
Important dates noted were: March 21-28 – Spring Break and April 14 –
Regular Board Meeting. |
