WHS varsity girls track wins Willis Relays, JV wins Bryan Relays

School’s varsity
girls track team has been working hard and it paid off when they took first
place at the Willis Wildkat Relays Feb. 21.
Stormie Hill
won the discus with a 95’4’ throw. Jona McGowen jumped 5’4” to win the high
jump and Kourtni Thomas tied her personal best jump of 16’1 to place third.
In pole-vault, Whitney Herzog jumped 7’ to tie for third and Michelle
Stewart placed fifth.
Leading off the running events; the 4x100 relay team of Raven Felder,
Karla Smiley, Lindsey Yanckek, and Kandis Stubbefield took gold and McGowen
won the 100 meter hurdles. Felder placed third in the 100 meter dash. The
4x200 relay team of Felder, Yanckek, Stubblefield, and Dezarae Fletcher
placed second. Ashley Kelsey placed third in the 400 running a 65. Morgan
Davis took gold in the 300 hurdles and Kandis Stubblefield went on to place
third in the 200 hurdles. The girls finished the night with a win in the
mile relay. The team of Davis, Smiley, Ariel Walker, and Ginger Walker beat
all other district teams by five seconds.
The girls junior varsity team brought home the team championship from
Bryan Feb. 21. Top finishers were Ariel Walker, Opal Jackson, Camille Brown,
Tori Bradbury, Keke Lockhart, SaeSae Lockhart, Kelcie Venden, Kalani
Ratcliffe, Michelle Shriver, Diane Velasco and Kourtney Hudson.
