Bulldogs take second in Highway 287 Classic

Jan.18 Waller High School’s varsity soccer team also traveled to Ennis to compete in the HWY 287 Classic. 
     In round one the team won 1-0 over Ennis High School. Brandon Goebel was the goal scorer assisted by Will Garcia. In round two, the Bulldogs made a come from behind 2-1 win over 5A high school R.L. Turner. Senior Juan Amaro, assisted by Ricardo Herrera, scored to send the game to a shootout. The winning goal was scored by senior Edward Martinez sending the ‘Dogs to the tournament finals where they lost to 5A high school Grand Prairie. Herrera made a notable 35-yard shot.
     The Bulldogs took on very competitive teams, all with long history of playoff experience, and in tough districts, such was case for R.L. Turner who plays powerhouses like South Lake Carroll, Flour Mound, and McKinney North.
