8 WHS Bulldogs sign National Letter of
Intent
Feb. 6 eight of Waller High
School’s senior football stars officially signed their national letter
of intent to play college football.
Bulldog defensive end Trevor Barry, who was named Honorable Mention
All-District in 2007, will play for Texas State University-San Marcos
(Texas State) as a defensive end. Barry is a member of Business
Professionals of America (BPA), art club, and rodeo club. He is the son
of Hayden and Connie Barry and will study criminal
justice.
Tight end Joplo Bartu, who was named First Team All-District in
2007, will also play for Texas State as a free safety. Bartu is also a
member of student council, Pride, choir, basketball, and track. He is a
Texas Scholar and on the honor roll. He is the son of Ester Jackson and
will study business.
Highly recruited Bulldog defensive tackle Eddie Brown, who was
unanimously named District 18-4A Defensive MVP, will play for Texas A&M
University. He is one of the Houston Chronicle’s Top 100 football
players, First Team All Greater Houston, WHS Wendy’s High School Heisman
Award Winner, fourth in the state in Powerlifting, and second in
district in Wrestling. In 2006, Brown was unanimously selected First
Team All-District defensive end. He is the son of Eddie Brown and Sharon
Williams.
Bulldog center Jacob Dodd, who was named First Team All-District in
2007, will play for Hardin-Simmons University (Hardin-Simmons) in
Abilene, Texas. Dodd is a Texas Scholar and member of PRIDE. He is the
son of Dwayne and Cindy Dodd and plans to study electrical engineering.
Defensive lineman David Hunter, who was selected First Team
All-District in 2007, will play for the University of Houston. Hunter is
a Texas Scholar, member of the National Honor Society, and was named
Second Team All Greater Houston. In 2006, he was named Second Team
All-District defensive lineman. He is the son of David and Earnestine
Hunter and plans to study chemical engineering.
Star quarterback, and son of Bulldog Head Coach Jim Phillips and
Diane Phillips, Jeremy Phillips, who was chosen District 18-4A MVP in
2007, will play safety for the University of North Texas in Denton.
Jeremy will study criminal justice. He is a Texas Scholar, member of
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the track team. In 2006, he
was named Honorable Mention All-District.
Another of the Bulldogs’ outstanding defensive lineman Josh Poyer,
who was unanimously selected First Team All-District in 2007, will also
play for Hardin-Simmons as a defensive tackle. Poyer is a member of the
National Honor Society, PRIDE, FCA, basketball, track, honor role, and
has perfect attendance. He is the son of Esau and Michelle Poyer and
plans to study education.
Bulldog Stephen Williams, who was named unanimous First Team
All-District receiver and Second Team All-District Defensive return
specialist in 2007, will play for Angelo State University as a wide
receiver. Williams also participates in basketball, track, and student
council. He is the son of Benitha Boulds and plans to study graphic
design. |
