WHS announces
2008 Rodeo Art Winners
Jan. 22, representatives from the Houston
Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) visited Waller High School (WHS) to
judge entries to its art contest. 46 pieces, created by WHS students,
were judged and each was tagged with a blue, red, or white ribbons. They
also chose a best of show winner, junior Piero Pretto, two gold
medalists; junior Sarah Mellott and junior Aabram Acosta; a special
merit winner, junior Jesse Lain; and a gold star finalist winner,
Maximilloiano Corral. Pretto, Mellott, Acosta, and Lain’s artwork will
now be displayed at the HLSR.
Pretto’s piece is an oil painting of a cow, Mellott’s piece is an
oil painting of three cattle, Acosta’s piece is a pastel landscape, and
Lain’s piece is a cactus ceramic sculpture.
Blue ribbon winners were
Mahdi Agha, Adam Marshall, Maria Aponte, Pablo
Negreros, Cole Briggs, Emily Poore, Chelsea Contravis, Erick Ramirez,
Andrea Gaines, Kasey Shelton, Ashley Kelsey, and Van Tran.
Red ribbon winners were
Courtney Bates, Haley Rittenberry, Katie Berry, Bricelda
Robles, Victor Cortes, Lizbeth Rocha, Travis Gallard, Lucero Sanchez,
Michelle Hackler, Harrison Schilling, Edgar Hernandez, Karla Smiley,
Fredrick Lee, Paige Toman, April Nowak, Christine Torres, Kaitlyn
Pflughaupt, and David Wager.
White ribbon winners were Joseph Curtner, Edith Moreno, Logan Erck,
Chance Sledge, Noshin Ferdous, Michelle Stewart, Desiree Frausto, Laura
Villareal, Dylan Greene, Jeremy Walker, and Kodi Keith.
Any senior whose art was
displayed in the show at WHS is eligible to apply for a HLSR
scholarship. Scholarship recipients will be determined and announced
later this school year. |
