WISD Board approves new
2008-2009 WHS courses
The Waller ISD Board of Trustees
recognized a number of outstanding student achievements during its regular
monthly meeting Dec 10. Among the recognitions were Waller High School (WHS)
All-District Volleyball honorees Katie Berry, Morgan Davis, Emily Wood,
Whitney Herzog, Kallie Carpenter, Kristie Porter, Tayler McCullough, Camille
Brown, Ashley Young, and Stormie Hill; WHS Regional Cross Country qualifier
Brandon Reyes; WHS choir students Anjanae Harvey and Chelsea Contravis who
were selected in to the Region 27 Treble Choir, Waller Junior High (WJH)
choir students Perla Castillo, Brittney Cottrell, Taylor Hodges, Ashley
Legan, Franki Lerma, Bryce Louviere, Brandi Poyer, Bailey Robinson, Hallie
Sessum, Richard Sirman, Taylor Smith, Heather Snow, Jessica Snow, Laura
Tapia, Samantha Warren, Jessica Watts, Kayla White, and Brooke Wooten who
received a Division I (Superior) Rating at Region 27 Solo and Ensemble
Competition, and WHS drum major Lauren Forester for being selected as part
of the “Honor Band of America.”
The Board approved new WHS courses for 2008-2009. Next year WHS will
offer Dual College Credit Horticulture, Dual College Credit Animal Science,
Advanced Floral design, Introduction to Veterinary Assistant Technology,
Pharmacy Technician, The Bible and Its Influence, Special Topics in Social
Studies: American Studies, Special Topics in Social Studies: Street Law, and
AP European History.
Adding the two additional Dual College Credit courses, would mean that
WHS offers 52 total hours of college credit. With these offerings students
have the potential to earn “sophomore” status at a low cost before they
enter a college campus and atmosphere. If a student can earn all 52 hours of
college credit offered at WHS, they will be just 8 hours shy of “junior”
status upon entering college.
In the regular agenda, the Board approved Update 81 then heard
information on renovations at Schultz Middle School from SHW Group
representatives and new legislation requiring fingerprinting of new hourly
employees.
Important dates noted were: Jan. 14 – Regular Board meeting. |
