WISD Board Recognizes
Winter Graduates
During its regular meeting Jan.
8, the Waller ISD (WISD) Board of Trustees recognized four winter
graduates from Waller High School (WHS). Those graduates were twins
Brandy and Brittney Scott, Juan Martinez, and Michelle Mims. They also
recognized a number of student athletes who were named First Team
All-District, Second Team All-District, Honorable Mention All-District,
and Academic All-District in football and volleyball (for a complete
list of names visit
http://www.wallerisd.net/admin/document/archive/1214061.htm),
and a number of WHS musicians who were named to various All-State and
Area honor bands (for details visit
http://www.wallerisd.net/admin/document/archive/0105071.htm).
Then, WISD principals presented each Board member with a certificate in
honor of School Board Recognition Month.
In the regular agenda, the Board voted to approve WHS’s proposed
program, “The Hope Academy”. “The Hope Academy,” is a school within a
school program that will be implemented at WHS as soon as possible. It
will allow a flexible and self-paced academic environment to students
who have applied and met the criteria for the program. The students
accepted into the program will have the opportunity to come to school
four hours in the morning, four hours in the afternoon, or all day; but
hours will be flexible to meet individual needs. The program will
utilize A+nywhere curriculum currently being used in the district’s
summer and night school programs. “The Hope Academy” is geared toward
at-risk high school students and will allow WHS to better serve the
needs of all students.
The Board also voted to order a May 12, 2007 Trustee Election for
positions 3 and 4 on the Board. These positions are currently held by
Brian Lowe and Paul Wood. They also voted to approve WISD Superintendent
Richard McReavy’s evaluation and contract extension.
In information items, McReavy gave a brief summary of Update 79,
passed this summer as part of House Bill 1. WHS Principal Kelly Baehren,
WHS Assistant Principal Eric Meldahl, and Waller Junior High Principal
Troy Mooney discussed the WISD Random Drug-Testing Program. After
implementation of the Random Drug-Testing Policy, drug related incidents
at WHS and WJH have decreased. For detailed information on the WISD
Random Drug-Testing Policy, please visit
