WISD Board Meets in August Regular Session
WALLER ISD – During the regular meeting of the Waller ISD
Board of Trustees held August 10, the Board recognized Londa
Sessions, Evelyn Turlington Elementary Teacher, and Carol
Courville, San Bernard Electric Company Local Government
Economic Community Development, for helping Waller ISD
schools obtain over $278,000 in monetary grants over a ten
year period for playgrounds and parks. Londa started her
quest as a Playground Chair on the PTO board at Roberts Road
Elementary. Londa recently teamed up with Evelyn Turlington
Elementary Principal, Mindy Peper, and Waller ISD Facilities
and Construction Director, Jeanine Slaughter, and was
awarded a matching fund grant of $25,000 to purchase
playground equipment for the new school.
Consent agenda items included resignations, employment,
leaves of absence, staff transfers, disbursements, budget
change requests, tax refunds, staffing requests, 2009-2010
Memorandum of Understanding for JJAEP. WISD Superintendent
Richard McReavy announced that Waller ISD is listed as the
safest school district in Harris County once again. Other
consent agenda items were consideration of appointing Mike
Marcus to calculate district tax rates for the 2009 year,
update of directory information in Board Policy DIA (Local)
and FFH (Local), update BQ (Local), BQA (Local), and BQB
(Local), a proposed revision on DEA (Local) policy,
consideration and approval of out-of-district transfers for
2009-2010, and the renewal of the Cambridge Knowledge
Systems contract.
In the regular agenda, the Board considered authorization of
audio webcast of coaches interviews, game re-caps, and
players of the week. The board approved the motions.
In information items, the Board heard a construction report
from Sam Savage with SHW Group. Mike Marcus, Asst.
Superintendent for Finance, informed the Board of the
2009-2010 budget update and certified the 100% total
collection rate for the 2009 tax year. Ted Jongbloed
presented a Waller ISD Technology update that entailed a
demonstration of the modern technology equipment in Waller
ISD schools.
In patron presentations, Trustee Lowe passed out invitations
to a local church welcoming lunch for Evelyn Turlington
Elementary employees.
Important
dates noted were: August 10-12 – New Teacher Orientation;
August 11 – New Teacher Luncheon at Waller Baptist Church;
August 13 – First Day of Teachers; August 17 -Convocation
and Staff Development at 1:30 p.m. at Waller High School;
August 24– First Day of School & Special Called Board
Meeting; August 27 – Waller ISD High School Stadium Open.
