Waller ISD Appreciates Caring Volunteers
Volunteer
work is not solely about donating your time, it often
involves donating the love you share for children. Caring
volunteers donate their precious time to Waller ISD
year-round assisting the schools with any task, whether
tedious or fun.
Two of the
many appreciated volunteers at I.T. Holleman Elementary
School (HES) are Lela Page and Martha Kostack. Lela Page is
a 90 year old volunteer that has been volunteering weekly
for ten consecutive years at HES in Janyce Beyer’s
Kindergarten class. Mrs. Page has four adult children of
her own, three live on the Page Ranch in Hockley and one in
Magnolia. She has several grandchildren and great
grandchildren, none of which attend Holleman Elementary
School. Her late husband passed away ten years ago and Mrs.
Page decided to volunteer her time after his passing.
Page said,
“I love children. After my husband passed I wanted to
volunteer my time to children since I love them so. I
believe we must serve one another and serve the Lord. I
enjoy helping others but I truly enjoy helping these
children.”
Mrs. Page
volunteers her time to teach the children responsibility,
respect, organization, hygiene, and most of all, love. She
works with the children during the school year with various
school projects. She helped them plant beans, make Mother’s
Day cards, practice their ABC’s, numbers, and reading
skills, play games, and encourage them to always express
their love by helping out with chores when they get home.
Another
wonderful volunteer is Martha Kostack. She is retired and a
colon cancer survivor. She volunteers weekly in Ms. Beyer’s
classroom and with Ms. Dawson preparing treat bags for TAKS
test takers. She often visits the school library with the
Kindergarten students. She teaches them library etiquette
and assists them with their book selection or exchange.
Mrs.
Kostak was a substitute teacher from 2000-2006 and has been
a weekly volunteer since last Fall. She has lived in Waller
ISD for 48 years and has three children, all graduating from
Waller ISD. She was also an active volunteer while her
children were in school.
Kostack
says, “All the teachers and students alike call me Grandma.
These children are jewels and so loveable. I just wish I
could follow them to the next grade level but I will love
the new ones next year just as much.” Mrs. Kostack was
looking forward to baking cupcakes for the students for the
last day of school.
Martha
Kostack’s husband is currently battling the reoccurrence of
esophageal cancer but still manages to share her precious
time to volunteer for the school.
Kindergarten teacher, Janyce Beyer said “These women are
amazing. They have been wonderful and faithful volunteers.
I am so grateful for all they do for me and for the
students.”
Waller ISD
appreciates Lela Page and Martha Kostack for their valuable
time and for sharing their loving hearts.
