Waller ISD Announces 2010 Rookies & Teachers of the Year
Waller
ISD Campus Teachers & Rookies of the Year were presented
by Joy Kanyo, Waller ISD Curriculum Director, and
MaryAnn McDaniel, Waller ISD Mathematics Coordinator, to
the WISD Board of Trustees during the Regular Called
Board Meeting on May 11. Selected by peers at their
respective campuses, the Teacher of the Year honorees
were: Diane Cone (Waller High School), Kelly Milmo
(Schultz Middle School), Rosalia Barquero (Holleman
Elementary), Michael Twigg (Waller Jr. High School),
Melanie Payne (Fields Store Elementary), Jose Toscano
(Roberts Road Elementary), and Ashley Allen (Jones
Elementary). Waller ISD selected Rookies of the Year, a
first in Waller ISD’s history. Rookie of the Years are
first year teachers that were selected by their peers.
Waller ISD Rookies of the Year are Roger Bergeron
(Waller Jr. High School), Kathy Eckermann (Fields Store
Elementary School), Shelia Goldman (Roberts Road
Elementary), Angela McCain (Schultz Middle School),
James Mable Jr. (Holleman Elementary), and Eric Geigley
(Waller High School).
When
these extraordinary teachers were selected as Teacher of
the Year and Rookie of the Year at their respective WISD
campus, those from the elementary and secondary level
were then eligible to be selected as the District
Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year and
Rookies of the Year.
After
a detailed application and interview process, the
District Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year
and Rookies of the Year were selected. Waller ISD
Secondary Teacher of the Year is Michael Twigg (Waller
Junior High) and Waller ISD Elementary Teacher of the
Year is Melanie Payne (Fields Store Elementary School).
Waller ISD Elementary Rookie of the Year is Kathy
Eckermann (Fields Store Elementary) and Secondary Rookie
of the Year is Eric Geigley (Waller High School).
Michael Twigg and Melanie Payne proceed as district
candidates representing Waller ISD in the Region IV
Education Service Center Teacher of the Year
competition. The Region IV Education Teacher of the
Year winners will be announced in August.
A
special thanks goes to the 2009-2010 Rookies & Teachers
of the Year selection committee which include Kathryn
Ann Reed, Prairie View A&M University and former Waller
High School teacher, Abby Paben, St. John’s Lutheran
Youth and Family Minister, Sarah Lee, 2009 WISD
Elementary Teacher of the Year and Waller Jr. High 7th
Grade Math Teacher, Jennifer Hoffpauir, 2009 WISD
Elementary Teacher of the Year and District Elementary
Mathematics Coordinator, Jorge Alvarado, Director of
Bilingual Services, Eric Meldahl, ESL Services
Coordinator, and MaryAnn McDaniel, District Mathematics
Coordinator.
All
campus teachers received a shirt, plaque, and other
gifts. In addition, each campus Teachers of the Year
received a $500 financial award to be used for
instructional purposes or staff development from the
Waller ISD Education Foundation. District Elementary
and Secondary Teachers of the Year received an
additional $500 and gifts donated by Waller area
merchants.
