WISD Students Send Holiday Greetings to U.S.
Soldiers
Students at H.T. Jones Elementary and I.T.
Holleman Elementary have written messages to
soldiers for Valentine’s Day and again for
Easter. The students were given a card prepared
by Retired I.T. Holleman Elementary Coach, Mary
Alice Cure, with a decorative photo message on
the front. The students then wrote their own
messages to soldiers on the inside and some
chose to add a little art work. One hundred
cards for each holiday have been mailed to the
soldiers of Fort Riley Kansas who are now
stationed at Camp Liberty, Iraq. Cure’s son is
SPC Gilford Nick Welch, a graduate of Waller
High School. SPC Welch will pass out the Easter
cards to soldiers of the 2/1 STB - 1-ID as he
did the Valentines in February. Two of the
students from Kasey White’s third grade class at
H.T. Jones Elementary received appreciation
messages from 1 Lt. Astrander and SPC Heinze for
the cards. A big thank you goes to teachers
Janyce Beyer, Betsy Heinemann, Peggy Heintz,
Jennifer Holladay, Evelyn Turlington, Mary Alice
Cure, and Kasey White for their assistance in
guiding the children in this act of patriotism.
