WISD Board Meets in May Regular Called Meeting
WALLER ISD
– During the regular meeting of the Waller ISD Board of
Trustees held on May 11, the Board meeting began with
numerous board recognitions. The first recognition was of
the Lone Star College System. Donetta Goodall, Chancellor
for Academic Affairs and Student Success, was presented with
a plaque for their continuous partnership with Waller ISD.
Lone Star College has teamed up with Waller ISD offering the
dual credit program to Waller High School students. The Lone
Star College System Board of Trustees approved a 100%
tuition waiver for all dual credit students effective fall
of 2009
Joy Kanyo,
Waller ISD Curriculum Director, and MaryAnn McDaniel, Waller
ISD Mathematics Coordinator, announced the Campus and
District Teachers and Rookies of the Year. Waller ISD
Campus Teachers of the Year are Diane Cone (Waller High
School), Kelly Milmo (Schultz Middle School), Rosalia
Barquero (Holleman Elementary), Michael Twigg (Waller Jr.
High School), Melanie Payne (Fields Store Elementary), Jose
Toscano (Roberts Road Elementary), and Ashley Allen (Jones
Elementary). Waller ISD Rookies of the Year are Roger
Bergeron (Waller Jr. High School), Kathy Eckermann (Fields
Store Elementary School), Shelia Goldman (Roberts Road
Elementary), Angela McCain (Schultz Middle School), James
Mable Jr. (Holleman Elementary), and Eric Geigley (Waller
High School).
Waller ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year is Michael
Twigg (Waller Junior High) and Waller ISD Elementary Teacher
of the Year is Melanie Payne (Fields Store Elementary
School). Waller ISD Elementary Rookie of the Year is Kathy
Eckermann and Secondary Rookie of the Year Eric Geigley
(Waller High School).
Additional
recognitions went to the Waller Jr. High Band for making a
debut at a national concert band festival in Indianapolis,
Indiana and to the Waller Jr. High Choir for winning the UIL
Region 27 sweepstakes trophy. The Waller Jr. High 8th
Grade Girls and Boys Track Teams were recognized for being
named District Champions. Both of the Waller Jr. High 7th
Grade Girls and Boys Track Teams were recognized for being
named “runner-up” at the District Track Meet. The last
Waller Jr. High recognition for the evening was 7th
grade student, Angelica Grayson, who was congratulated for
being recognized by the Duke University Talent
Identification Program. Grayson was identified as one of
the top 5% of academically talented 7th grade
students nationwide.
The Waller
High School recognitions began with the Waller High School
Choir for their results at the UIL Region 27 and Blinn
Competitions. The choir came home with the highest UIL
scores ever. The Waller High School Box of Stars Theatre One
Act Play students were recognized for advancing to the
regional competition. In UIL Academics, Waller High School
was named Runner-Up District 18-4A UIL Academic Champion.
In athletic recognitions, The Waller High School boys and
girls soccer teams were recognized and 18-4A All District
honors were announced.
After the
recognitions, the consent agenda was presented. The consent
agenda items consisted of resignations, employment, leaves
of absence, staff transfers, disbursements, budget change
requests, tax refunds, staffing requests, renewal of
contract for collection of delinquent taxes, proposed
2009-2010 Student/Parent Handbook Revisions, Shared Services
agreement with Cy-Fair-Northwest Harris County Cooperative
for the Hearing Impaired Shared Services arrangement,
assignment of judgment, Jones Elementary lease contract,
renewal of tobacco grant resolution, extending student
insurance contract with Brazos Valley Insurance Group,
Schultz Middle School network upgrades, Turlington
Elementary School library furniture purchase, athletic
insurance for 2009-2010 school year, technology equipment,
and catalog proposals. The motion carried as amended.
In
information items, the Board heard a Waller ISD bond
construction report from Sam Savage with SHW Group. The
Waller ISD meal price increase for the 2009-2010 school year
presentation was given by Food Services Director, Whitney
Johnson, and Asst. Superintendent for Business and Finance,
Mike Marcus. Marcus also informed the Board of the
depository contract and catalog proposals.
Another
highlight of the board meeting was a patron presentation
given by Evelyn Turlington, namesake for Evelyn Turlington
Elementary School. Mrs. Turlington thanked the Board for
the special honor as being the namesake of the new
elementary school and credited several of her mentors by
saying, “They helped me be the person that I am today”.
Waller ISD
Superintendent, Richard McReavy, thanked Bo Pierce and
Robert Carvell for their dedicated years of serving on the
Waller ISD School Board of Trustees. Bo Pierce personally
congratulated the re-elected and newly elected board
members. He also expressed his thanks to all for allowing
him to serve the school district.

dates noted were: May 13 – Canvass of May 9, 2009 Trustee
Election; May 25 – Staff/Student Holiday – Memorial Day;
June 2 – Waller ISD Transportation Service Awards; June 3 –
Last Day of School & Waller ISD Service Awards & Luncheon;
