WISD Board Meets in March Regular Called Meeting
WALLER ISD – During the regular meeting of the
Waller ISD Board of Trustees held March 9, the Board
meeting recognitions opened up with a brief
presentation by Wal-Mart Cypress Superstore Manager,
Dominic Ortiz, and Community Liasion, Tina Larkey,
presenting a $1,000 donation check to each of the
seven Waller ISD campuses. Superintendent, Richard
McReavy, awarded Wal-Mart Cypress Superstore a
plaque thanking them for their ongoing generous
support to Waller ISD. Several Waller ISD school
Principals introduced the winning students that
placed in the Waller ISD Spelling Bee and the Region
V Spelling Bee. Dillon Spence, Wayne C. Schultz
Middle School, won the Region V Spelling Bee and
advanced to compete in the
Houston PBS Spelling Bee on March 28th
against region spelling bee winners from 42 other
counties.
Waller High School Principal, Kelly Baehren,
introduced the 2009 Mr. Valentine, Dorian Nero, a
Waller High School Senior. 25 Senior boys competed
to win the Mr Valentine’s title. Ending the Board
Recognitions were the Waller High School Lady
Bulldogs Girls Basketball Team. Coach Schila Clough
introduced each player and gave the Board the girls
basketball season highlights.
The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the girls
basketball district playoffs and played against Hays
ISD.
After the recognitions, the Consent Agenda was
presented. Consideration of resignations,
employment, leaves of absence, teacher contracts,
staffing requests, tax refund(s), disbursements,
budget change request(s), and minutes of the
meetings from November, December and January were
all considered. In Regular Agenda, consideration
to move the April Regular Called Board Meeting to
Tuesday, April 14, 2009, due to the Easter Holiday
was approved by the Board.
In Information Items, A Bond Construction Update
Report was presented by Sam Savage, SHW Group. All
three of the main bond construction projects are
progressing on-time as planned. Visit

updates. Richard McReavy discussed the Elementary
and Junior High Schools Attendance Zones. A Waller
ISD Public Attendance Zone Boundary Meeting was held
on March 30, 2009.
The public was able to view the proposed
boundaries, ask questions, and share ideas with the
Superintendent and staff. All Attendance Zone

Richard McReavy announced the re-titling of the 6th-8th
grade campuses. Students at Waller Jr. High and
Wayne C. Schultz Middle School voted to re-title the
two schools “Waller Jr. High and Wayne C. Schultz
Jr. High” or "Waller Middle School and Wayne C.
Schultz Middle School”. The majority of students
voted to re-title the two schools for the 2009-2010
school year “Waller Jr. High and Wayne C. Schultz
Jr. High”. In other information items, Richard
McReavy announced the Region IV Board of Director
Election and a New Stadium Scoreboard Update.
Waller ISD announced the sale of scoreboard
advertising panel displays and stated that the local
business response was overwhelming. The new stadium
scoreboard will be privately-funded. The new Waller
ISD stadium is due to open for the first football
game of the 2009-2010 season against LaMarque.

Agreement, Consideration and Approval of the Writ of
Election for the 2009 Trustee Election and Early
Voting Clerks, Board Member Continuing Education
Report, and 2009-2010 Student Handbook Revisions.
Important dates noted were: March 16-20 – Spring
Break; April 10 &13 – Easter Holiday; April 14 –
Regular Called Board Meeting (Tentative); April 27,
2009-May 5, 2009 – Early Voting for Waller ISD
Trustee Election; May 9, 2009 – Waller ISD Trustee
Election; May 11 – Regular Called Board Meeting.
