WISD 4th Graders Visit Fairgrounds for Ag Day
Waller ISD
4th graders visited the Waller County Fairgrounds
for the 4th Annual Waller County Farm Bureau and
Extension “Ag Day” event on October 22nd.
Students visited educational sessions throughout the day to
learn about animals such as pigs, rabbits, chickens, goats,
sheep, and cattle. The students were able to pet chicks and
a rabbit and learned about the differences in animal breeds.
The various breeds were taught whether they are classified
as a pet, used for breeding or raised for meat consumption.
Students also learned about the different animal by-products
such as wool from sheep, leather from cattle used for belts
and shoes, goat soap, foods such as goat cheese and milk,
and eggs from chickens. Agriculture jobs and where rice,
wheat, and corn come from were discussed and how they are
used as food products. Texas Parks and Wildlife were on
site to talk about the dangers of wild animals and wildlife
protection laws and limits.
Nutritious sausage wrap and fruit lunches were provided to
the students. Students took a pre-test to measure how much
they knew about the animals prior to visiting the
fairgrounds. After the Ag Day visit they took a post-test
that recapped the educational sessions taught. A survey was
also given to obtain feedback on how they felt about
agriculture.
