Third Safety Preparedness Meeting Held
at Waller ISD
WISD-Waller ISD sponsored its third
Roundtable Discussion Meeting with
emergency personnel in and around the
Waller ISD community on January 28th.
WISD Superintendent Richard McReavy
welcomed all attendants and spoke about
the importance of communication.
Danny Twardowski chaired the meeting and
reviewed the previous meeting’s
highlights. Twardowski emphasized the
need for a joint Waller County and
Waller Community Emergency Command
Meeting Center to improve communication
during an emergency.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputy,
Paul Straker, presented the Stay in
School Program data. Straker reported
that Waller ISD’s Attendance Rate is
currently 96.40% and has risen since the
95.40% reported in the 2006-2007 school
year. Straker added that the attendance
rate is higher than most schools in the
program. The Stay In School program
provides court assistance through the
Harris County District Attorney’s Office
to Waller ISD to address violations of
the compulsory attendance laws.
The significance of Crime Stoppers was
also discussed at the meeting. Crime
Stoppers is available in both Waller and
Harris County. Crime Stoppers has been
a great program and it has been an
excellent resource to solving criminal
activity in the area. The program
allows people to remain anonymous when
reporting crime tips. Agencies were
encouraged to contact Mr. Twardowski if
they need Crime Stoppers announcements
made in Waller ISD Schools.
All members at the meeting were to
invite other agencies not represented to
attend the roundtable discussion
meetings. The meetings are held to
share information and build positive
relationships with each other so that
all agencies can effectively and
efficiently prepare and respond to
community safety needs.
The next Roundtable Discussion is
planned for Thursday, April 23, 2009 in
the Waller ISD Board Room. For
