Four
former Waller Bulldog football players will have some
additional celebrating to do over the holiday season.
Jason Phillips, Mark Hafner, Cody Johnson, and David
Hunter will be playing football with their respective
universities in NCAA Bowl games. Phillips, class of
2004, is a standout middle linebacker for TCU. He has
garnered many awards in his career including 1st
and 2nd team All-Mountain West linebacker.
He was also named Co-Defensive MVP for TCU this past
season. TCU plays Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl on
December 23rd. Hafner, class of 2003, and
Hunter, class of 2008, both play for the Houston
Cougars. Hafner is a prominent tight-end who has played
a vital role in one of the nation’s most potent
offenses. Hafner has gained many awards including 2nd
team All-Conference USA. Hunter is a true freshman who
plays defensive tackle for the Cougars. Both Hunter and
Hafner will be playing in the Fort Worth Armed Forces
Bowl against Air Force on December 31st. Cody Johnson,
class of 2007, is emerging as a notable tailback for the
University of Texas. Johnson currently has 12
touchdowns as a redshirt freshman for the Longhorns.
Johnson and his teammates will take on Ohio State in the
BCS Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on January 5. In addition to
these great honors, Jason Phillips and Mark Hafner were
recently named to the Sports Illustrated All-American
Honorable Mention team. Cody Johnson was named to the
Rivals.Com 1st team All-Big 12 Freshman
Team. Eddie Brown, class of 2008, and current defensive
tackle at Texas A&M University was also named to the
Rivals.Com 1st team All-Big 12 Freshman
Team. Congratulations to these fine young men and their
