Cory Meals became the Director of Music for Waller ISD in the summer of
2006.
He was previously an Assistant Band Director at Klein
Forest High School in Klein ISD. Meals has also been
the Assistant Band Director at Indian Springs Middle School in Keller ISD. He
begins his fifth year of teaching at Waller High School.
Ensembles under his direction
have earned numerous "Superior" and "Best in Class" ratings, and in fall 2004,
he was named “Outstanding Fine Arts Teacher” at Klein Forest High School.
Meals holds a Bachelor's
Degree in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL. While
at VanderCook, Meals worked on both the visual and musical staffs of many
Chicago-area marching bands including; Lake Park High School (2000), Wheaton
Warrenville South High School (1998-2001), and Downer's Grove South High School
(2001); where he helped several groups to achieve numerous regional titles.
He is a five-year veteran of
the world-champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (1997-2001), and has been a
member of its brass staff since 2002. Meals is an active adjudicator and
clinician in both the United States and Canada. His professional affiliations
include Texas Music Educator's Association, Championship Music Consultants, CMC
Design, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He currently resides in Houston, Texas.
Mike Cheripka
became Assistant
Band Director at WHS in the summer of 2005. He also assists with the WJH bands,
teaches some beginner classes, and is the instructor of the WHS Jazz Band and
Symphonic Band. Cheripka’s primary role is as the Visual Caption Head, though he
is the band’s “jack of all trades” since he is also the music arranger. Mr.
Cheripka is a graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he played
in many of the top ensembles. He also established himself in the Pittsburgh area
as a very strong Indoor Drumline instructor and was a member of many drum and
bugle corps, including General Butler Vagabonds, Pioneer, and the 2002 DCI World
Champion Cavaliers. He was previously employed at the Kerens Independent School
District.
Joseph Cox
became a WISD Assistant Band Director in the summer of
2005. He serves as an assistant at WHS, WJH, and at
Shultz Middle School. He is a
percussion specialist and is responsible for most aspects of the percussion
section in the WISD band program. In addition, he is the instructor for the
Concert Band and the beginning percussion class. Mr. Cox is a graduate of Howard
Payne University and has been an instructor for a number of percussion camps in
the state of Texas. He was previously employed at the Mabank Independent School
District.
Greg
McCutcheon
became one of the WJH
band directors in the summer of 2005. He is an
accomplished clarinetist, and is responsible for most aspects of the woodwind
sections in the WISD band program. He also teaches some beginner classes.
Mr. McCutcheon is a graduate of the Indiana University
of Pennsylvania where he taught indoor percussion and indoor colorguard. He was
a member of the Bayonne Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps, and was a baritone player
in the 2002 DCI World Champion Cavaliers. Mr. McCutcheon was previously employed
at the
Pasadena
Independent School District.
Alicia Lopez, who became a guard instructor at WISD in the summer of
2005, also assists with wind and percussion movement. She is a freelance color
guard instructor from the state of
Pennsylvania who has a long
list of accomplishments as an instructor in her home state. Ms. Lopez was a
member of the 2002 Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps and she spun for many
years with the General Butler Vagabonds. |
