Staff members are
expected to use district resources in an appropriate manner. Inappropriate use of e-mail may result in a loss of access privileges. Inappropriate
use includes not following the chain of command in electronic
communication. This is a violation of school board policy.
E-mail is unforgiving. Once the send button is pushed, there is no turning
back. The message cannot be retrieved. Be just as careful when sending
e-mail as you would be in committing to paper your thoughts or reactions.
Remember that the written word can often be misinterpreted.
Although you may be deleting e-mail messages on your computer, all e-mail
is still stored on the server.
Many
e-mail communications may be subject to the Texas Public Information Act.
Be cautious about the contents of your e-mail. Many federal agencies will
request e-mails as a part of their investigation.
Just like running copies of a flyer to put in teacher boxes, group
mailings to whole staffs (groups) should first be cleared with the
principal to ensure the appropriateness of the memo. No one likes
"junk or unsolicited e-mail." Mail should only be sent to those
people who are affected by the message. In addition, group mailings tie up
the network. Chain letters are an example of inappropriate mail. If it is
not necessary to send a group mailing, don't. If in doubt, ask your
principal.
E-mail is a district
service provided by public funds. It may not be used to promote
organizations outside of the school nor may it be used for an individual's
personal or political agenda.
Remember to exit and sign off the system. If you leave your e-mail open,
others (including students) may have access to it.
Be polite; messages typed in all capital letters are the equivalent of
shouting and are considered rude.
Use
appropriate language; swearing, vulgarity, ethnic or racial slurs and any
other inflammatory language are prohibited.
Pretending to be someone else when sending or receiving messages is
considered inappropriate.
Transmitting obscene messages or pictures is prohibited.
