Mrs. Kanyo was named the
Director of Waller ISD Curriculum and Instruction in the summer of
2002.
Mrs.
Kanyo, who lives in the northeastern part of Waller County within the
Waller school district, came to Waller ISD with 39 years of
experience in teaching, administration, curriculum writing, and
teacher training.
She
served as an elementary and middle school teacher and principal as
well as alternative school principal in Alton, Illinois. And she
taught at Cy-Fair ISD Labay Junior High School and at Cypress Creek,
Cy-Fair, Langham Creek, and Cypress Falls High Schools. She also
served as a department chairperson, team leader, and Coordinator of
the Secondary Teacher Program at Cy-Fair.
At the post-secondary level,
Mrs. Kanyo taught at Boston College and Fisher College in
Massachusetts, Glendale Community College in Arizona, and Tomball
College in Tomball, Texas. Before coming to Waller ISD, she was
employed as a statewide trainer in curriculum and content areas at
the Region IV Educational Service Center in Houston.
An
experienced curriculum writer and instructor, Mrs. Kanyo has also
served as Senior Correlations Editor with Houghton Mifflin Publishing
Company, editing textbook content and supervising other textbook
work. And as an Administrator for the Master Reading Teaching
Program, a Specialist in English Language Arts, Reading, and
Communications Applications, and a trainer for a number of
educational programs, she has a wealth of experience in teaching new
teachers, seasoned teachers, mentors, and administrators in a wide
variety of curriculum areas.
Mrs. Kanyo has a
Bachelors of Education degree in Secondary and Elementary Education
Design and Assessment from Leeds University in England, a Bachelor of
Arts degree in English from Southern Illinois University, an MS
degree in Instruction, Reading, and Assessment from Texas A&M
University, and a Certificate of Education Specialization in Adult
Education and Curriculum Development from Tel Aviv University in
Israel. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Curriculum and
Instruction at Texas A&M. |
